Why the P2P rate differs from the bank rate

Banks quote the official exchange rate for US dollars. USDT is a digital dollar traded between people, and its Birr price follows what buyers and sellers in Ethiopia actually agree on, which is usually higher than the official rate because demand for dollars is high and supply is limited.

Because every trade on the marketplace is between two people, the rate is transparent: you see every seller's price before you commit, and nobody can quote you a rate after the fact.

How to get the best USDT rate

• Sort by price: the marketplace lists the cheapest sell ads first when you buy and the highest buy ads first when you sell.

• Look at completed trades and the completion rate: a seller with many quick, completed trades is worth a few Birr more.
• Post your own ad at the price you want and let the market come to you.

If you want a stable store of value, USDT keeps a one-dollar peg; its only moving part is the Birr rate. Bitcoin's dollar price moves on its own, so a Birr price for BTC changes for two reasons at once.
