Risk Disclosure
Last updated 1 October 2026
Buying, selling and holding crypto-assets involves significant risk, and you could lose money. This page explains the main risks of using Collext. Please read it carefully before you trade.
1. Crypto-assets are high risk
Crypto-assets are not legal tender, are not backed by any government or central bank, and are not protected by deposit insurance. Their value and usefulness depend on technology, on the organisations that issue and support them, and on the confidence of the people who use them, all of which can change quickly.
You could lose some or all of the money you put in. Only trade amounts you can afford to lose, and do not borrow money to trade.
2. Stablecoin risk
USDT is a "stablecoin" that aims to keep a value of one US dollar. It is issued by a private company, not by Collext. A stablecoin can lose its link to the dollar ("de-peg"), temporarily or permanently, if confidence in its issuer or in the reserves backing it falls, or if regulators act against it.
The issuer can freeze USDT held at particular addresses, and can change how and where USDT is supported. If that affects USDT held in our custody, it will affect your balance, and we may not be able to restore it.
3. Price and exchange-rate risk
The birr price of USDT on the marketplace is set by users, not by us. It can differ from official exchange rates and from prices elsewhere, and can move sharply. The price you agree in an order is fixed for that order, but the price of your next trade may be very different.
Rates shown on the homepage or in the app, such as the best current offer, are for information only and may have changed by the time you open an order.
4. Counterparty risk in P2P trading
When you trade on the marketplace, your counterparty is another user. Escrow protects the USDT side of the trade, but the birr side is paid directly between users' own accounts, outside our control. Things that can go wrong include:
- a buyer claiming to have paid when they have not, or submitting a fake receipt;
- a payment being reversed by the payer's bank or operator after the trade completes;
- a payment arriving from an account that does not belong to the buyer, which may be stolen money;
- a seller not checking their account or not releasing promptly; and
- someone you meet on the marketplace trying to persuade you to trade outside it, where escrow does not protect you.
We verify receipts and decide disputes, but we cannot guarantee that every counterparty will act honestly, and we are not liable for another user's actions. Never release USDT until you have seen the full payment in your own account. Never trade outside the platform.
5. Blockchain and network risk
- Transactions are irreversible. Once a withdrawal is broadcast to a blockchain, it cannot be cancelled or reversed. Funds sent to a wrong address are almost always lost for good.
- Networks are not interchangeable. USDT exists on several networks (TRON, BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Aptos). Sending USDT on one network to an address that expects another, or sending a different token, can lose the funds permanently.
- Networks can be slow, congested or expensive. Confirmation times and network fees vary and can rise sharply.
- Networks can fail or change. A blockchain can suffer outages, reorganisations, software bugs, attacks, or forks that split it in two. We may need to pause deposits and withdrawals on a network while such events are resolved.
6. Custody risk
USDT in your Collext wallet is held by us on your behalf. This means you rely on us to keep it safe and to process your withdrawals. We use security measures designed to protect it, but no custodian can rule out every risk, including hacking, insider wrongdoing, operational errors, or legal action that requires us to freeze funds. Balances held with us are not insured or guaranteed. If you do not need to keep USDT on the platform, you can withdraw it to a wallet you control.
7. Scams and account takeover
Crypto users are common targets for fraud. Be especially careful of:
- anyone who asks for your password, sign-in code, authenticator code or a reset link. Collext staff will never ask for these;
- messages claiming to be from Collext that do not come from the moonpaypro.com domain;
- offers that promise guaranteed or unusually high returns, or ask you to send crypto to receive more back;
- requests to pay or receive money for someone else, which may involve you in money laundering; and
- fake apps or websites. Only install our Android app from the download page on our own website.
Turn on two-factor authentication and use a unique password to reduce the risk of someone taking over your account.
8. Payment verification limits
Automatic verification reads receipts published by payment providers. It depends on their systems being available and accurate. If those systems are down, change, or return incomplete details, verification may be delayed, may need the seller to confirm manually, or in rare cases may reach a wrong result that has to be corrected. A verified receipt is strong evidence of payment, but it does not guarantee that a payment cannot later be reversed by the payment provider.
9. Legal and regulatory risk
The law on crypto-assets is developing in Ethiopia and around the world. Governments, central banks and regulators may introduce new rules, or interpret existing rules differently, in ways that restrict or prohibit buying, selling, holding or transferring crypto-assets, or that change how services like ours must operate.
Such changes could require us to change or limit the Services, to collect more information from you, to restrict access in some places, or to stop providing some or all of the Services. They may also affect the value of USDT. You are responsible for making sure your own use of the Services is lawful where you are.
10. Tax
Trading or holding crypto-assets may have tax consequences for you. Tax rules for crypto-assets can be complex and may change. You are responsible for any taxes that apply to you, and you should take independent advice if you are unsure.
11. Technology and availability
The Services depend on software, the internet, mobile networks, and third-party providers. Outages, maintenance, bugs or attacks may make the Services unavailable, including at times when you want to trade, release, or withdraw. Delays can matter when prices are moving fast. We do not promise that the Services will always be available.
12. No advice
Collext does not give investment, financial, legal or tax advice. Nothing in the Services is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset. Decide for yourself, using your own judgement and, if needed, independent professional advice, whether trading crypto-assets is right for you. This disclosure does not list every risk.
